Free agent quarterback Tim Tebow worked out for Eagles today

Philadelphia's crazy offseason took another surprising turn Monday.

The Eagles worked out free agent quarterback Tim Tebow today, according to numerous reports. ESPN's Adam Schefter was the first to report the news.

Within minutes of Schefter's tweet going live, #TebowTime became the No. 1 trending topic on Twitter across the United States.

Tebow (6-3, 236 pounds) has not played in the NFL since being cut by the Patriots prior to the 2013 season. Since then, he has been a college football analyst for ESPN's SEC Network.

Tom Brady responds to Terrance Knighton's remarks on Super Bowl

Earlier this week, Broncos defensive tackle Terrance Knighton created some buzz in the football world when he "guaranteed" a Broncos Super Bowl appearance—and victory.

Guarantee is used in quotation marks because Pot Roast alleges that his quotes were taken out of context. Here's what he told the Denver Post's Mark Kiszla:

"It doesn't matter what happens. At the end of the year, we're hoisting that trophy . . . I don't care if New England doesn't lose again. I don't care where we have to play. I don't care who our opponent is. We're not going to be satisfied until we hoist that trophy."

It seems that Knighton inadvertently replaced "our goal is" with "we are" going to win the Super Bowl. Judging from Knighton's follow-up tweet on Monday, that's likely the case:

I didn't guarantee a super bowl win. I just said I don't give a f**k who we play. We as a team have one goal. Being super bowl champs.

Regardless of if it was a guarantee or simply a stated goal, Knighton's words created a firestorm.

On Monday, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady responded to Pot Roast's remarks.

Patriots worked out Brady Quinn, sparking Ryan Mallett trade rumors

Brady Quinn, who will soon begin working as a football analyst for FOX Sports, worked out for the New England Patriots last week, per ESPN's Field Yates. Quinn then went on the The Dan Patrick Show to discuss the workout and the possibility of returning to the NFL.

"It went well," Quinn said, via ProFootballTalk.com. "In this particular situation, though, they need something to happen in order for me to possibly be there."

It is unclear what that "something" is that would need to happen, but that hasn't stopped anyone from speculating. The Patriots, who drafted Eastern Illinois quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo in the second round of the draft in May, may plan to trade Ryan Mallett, the team's No. 2 QB.

Mallett was drafted by the team in the third round of the 2011 NFL draft and has received plenty of buzz this offseason. Most notably, NFL Network's Mike Mayock recently said he was blown away by Mallet at practice, noting that he is "a legitimate NFL starting quarterback."

It's not hard to connect the dots and speculate that New England may be planning to shop Mallet and sign Quinn, giving them a QB trio of Tom Brady, Garoppolo, and Quinn. All of that, however, is mere speculation.

A more realistic scenario is that New England is preparing for any mid-season injuries that may happen this fall. Teams often workout players with the intention of potentially signing them down the road in case of an injury. That may be the "something" Quinn was referring to.

Quinn, who spent time in Denver from 2010-11, will now play the waiting game.

Agent: Peyton Manning did not want higher salary than Tom Brady

It's not always about the money.

Over at Peter King's MMQB site, Andrew Brandt has written a brilliant piece on the 2014 NFL owners meetings that are happening in Orlando, Florida this week. Near the end of the story, Brandt reveals a few details on Peyton Manning's 2012 free agency tour.

According to Tom Condon, the veteran quarterback's agent, there were originally twelve teams interested in Manning. With so much interest in his client, Condon was anticipating a recording-breaking deal being signed. Manning had other plans.

Writes Brandt:

Manning, however, was in charge; he would make four visits and then decide. Now down to four instead of twelve teams, Condon was disappointed but still confident in a megadeal. Manning, however, said he wanted to pick the team first, before any negotiations would ensue, meaning Condon was now down to one team to negotiate with.

After Manning picked Denver, he asked Condon how much New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady makes a year ($18 million). “Then I don’t want to make a penny more than that,” Manning said.

According to Brandt, Condon's visions of getting Manning $25 million a year were doused by Manning himself. After Condon related to Manning that the Broncos offered $19.4 million a year, Peyton's response was anything but excitement: “I told you I didn’t want to make more than Brady!”

Brandt says Condon apologized to Manning and called Peyton's wife, Ashley, who then "coaxed Manning to accept the Broncos’ offer."

It's a unique story that reflects Manning's respect for Brady and love of the game. When was the last time we heard of a player scoffing at a contract offer because it was too high? Fortunately for the Broncos, Manning ultimately signed, albeit not on his own terms.
