Mike Vick is still a free agent.

The 35-year-old quarterback has said he wants to play three more years in the NFL. That's possible. He's also said that he wants to start. That's not likely.

Vick is a proven veteran that would be a good backup for several NFL teams, but the chances of him signing on to start with a team are slim.

"(I'm) a proven winner," Vick said during an appearance on NFL Network last month, via CBS Sports. "I think that I've done a lot throughout the course of my career.

"I've proved that I can win games and play with some consistency and be a leader. I think those are the qualities that you want in a quarterback."

Until he gets a call, he's been working out on his own.

How much salary cap space do Broncos have? $150 million, NFLPA says

The Denver Broncos have a 2015 salary cap of $150,066,024, the NFL Players Association announced Monday.

This year's salary cap is $143.28 million. Teams that did not use all of their cap space in 2014 can roll that space over into 2015. Denver rolled over $5.87 million from last year.

Denver has the eleventh-highest adjusted salary cap this year. Jacksonville tops all teams with $168,486,107.

The Broncos currently have $133,475,312 invested in current player contracts, according to Spotrac.com. That leaves Denver with $16,587,712 to use in free agency this offseason.

On Monday, the Broncos used their franchise tag on wide receiver Demaryius Thomas. The tag will pay Thomas $12,823,000 this season.

Denver's next order of business will be re-signing players and targeting free agents across the league. Broncos set to become free agents include defensive tackle Terrance Knighton, safety Rahim Moore, offensive lineman Orlando Franklin, and tight ends Julius Thomas and Virgil Green.

Potential free agent targets for the Broncos include tight end/fullback James Casey, offensive lineman Mike Iupati, defensive tackle Nick Fairley, and return specialist Jacoby Jones.

The Broncos can begin negotiating with players on March 7. The new league year — and the free agency signing period — will begin at 2 p.m. MT on March 10.

Buzz: Broncos' John Elway praises Champ Bailey, who signs with Saints

Former Denver Broncos cornerback Champ Bailey signed a two-year deal with the New Orleans Saints on Friday. The contract has a max value of $7 million, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Bailey, a 12-time Pro Bowler who owns 52 career interceptions, saw his performance decline over the past two seasons in Denver. After Bailey limped through an injury-riddled 2013 campaign, the Broncos parted ways with the 35-year-old cornerback last month.

“Without question, he’s among the best cornerbacks to ever play the game and one of the finest players in the history of the Broncos. You couldn’t ask for more in a player than what Champ brought to this team. His combination of elite talent, class, leadership and competitiveness made him one of the all-time greats," Broncos general manager John Elway said of Bailey after the team released him on March 6.

Bailey's contract had him on the books to earn a base salary of $9 million in 2014. After leaving Denver and signing with New Orleans, Bailey will likely make less than $7 million over the next two seasons.

Agent: Peyton Manning did not want higher salary than Tom Brady

It's not always about the money.

Over at Peter King's MMQB site, Andrew Brandt has written a brilliant piece on the 2014 NFL owners meetings that are happening in Orlando, Florida this week. Near the end of the story, Brandt reveals a few details on Peyton Manning's 2012 free agency tour.

According to Tom Condon, the veteran quarterback's agent, there were originally twelve teams interested in Manning. With so much interest in his client, Condon was anticipating a recording-breaking deal being signed. Manning had other plans.

Writes Brandt:

Manning, however, was in charge; he would make four visits and then decide. Now down to four instead of twelve teams, Condon was disappointed but still confident in a megadeal. Manning, however, said he wanted to pick the team first, before any negotiations would ensue, meaning Condon was now down to one team to negotiate with.

After Manning picked Denver, he asked Condon how much New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady makes a year ($18 million). “Then I don’t want to make a penny more than that,” Manning said.

According to Brandt, Condon's visions of getting Manning $25 million a year were doused by Manning himself. After Condon related to Manning that the Broncos offered $19.4 million a year, Peyton's response was anything but excitement: “I told you I didn’t want to make more than Brady!”

Brandt says Condon apologized to Manning and called Peyton's wife, Ashley, who then "coaxed Manning to accept the Broncos’ offer."

It's a unique story that reflects Manning's respect for Brady and love of the game. When was the last time we heard of a player scoffing at a contract offer because it was too high? Fortunately for the Broncos, Manning ultimately signed, albeit not on his own terms.
